American Idol 9 - Welcome Back!

Well American Idol is back, and while I do not blog during the initial episodes, there is one thing about this season worth grabbing a mention while we watch the Boston best and baddies. The show is changing forever, and we will really see a transformation from what may have been the absolute peak in Season 7 when I started this blog to losing Paula this year and Simon next year. It appears we will be staying with four judges, so hopefully they have learned how to be more brief in their analysis this season. Without Paula, the audition season has 8 guest judges for the 8 cities, which should make for some interesting times in the first few weeks of the show. Then Ellen Degeneres takes over for Paula permanently.

It appears that Kara is being groomed to be a Simon replacement, as she is getting very catty but she speaks a lot of truth all of a sudden. Ellen will likely be like Paula in that she is a moral booster, but perhaps she will be different than we all expect. As usual, Randy will have his own unusual taste and Simon will be the most honest and correct judge of the bunch while pulling no punches. I hope the replacement for Simon has just as much talent and flair as Simon, but that's neither here nor there. Season 9 should be better than Season 8 simply on the loss of Paula Abdul. No offense, but she brought nothing but some humorous dialogue to the show after the first couple seasons. So unlike many calling this the demise of Idol, I believe we won't know that until Seasons 10 and 11 without Simon.

For now, welcome Ellen to the bunch and we'll see you at the semifinals, where I will try to improve on my 65% success rate in picks from Season 8.

Cheer! Rejoice! American Idol is back!
